Week of April 28th
Welcome back Teal Families! We hope you had a marvelous Spring Break and are recharged and ready to give yourselves a break by sending your children back to us for a while! We’ll gladly take them! It’s been a great, if slightly exhausting and disorienting week here as we all try to reacquaint ourselves with school routines.
Also, it’s summer now? Apparently spring took a Spring Break, so the weather is warm–make sure you’re sending in water bottles! Might want to send in some seasonally appropriate changes of clothes, just in case the fun is so big (and sweaty) that kids need to change.
OMG you guys it’s May now and Exhibition is in . . . checks calendar, does math, panics . . . 14 school days!!! That’s right–put May 22nd at 12:20 on your calendars now! We have hit the ground running for our project and are very excited to invite you to our new country, so get ready to travel. It may be confusing at first but we’re excited to share our culture with you! Don’t worry about updating your passports, we’ve got you covered! In preparation for our emotional safety video, we did watch a few fun airline safety videos to get the tone right. Perhaps some of the looks will feel familiar in this one, and this one will help you acclimate to a new place.
We’re wrapping up our research about various countries this week (library books were due!) but we were paying special attention to things we found out about our countries that inspire us–you can ask your kids about their “heart facts.” We’ll build our country from these best bits of the places we’ve studied to create the coolest community ever! We’ve also begun studying different national anthems so that we can write our own. We can’t guarantee that our own will have the same . . . gravitas as O Canada, but we can promise that it will be heartfelt!!
We’ve also begun reading some folk tales from different countries to give us some context. Ask your Teal kid who was in Rabbit’s house, and what happens to children who stray from the village on the Tundra. We’ve been enjoying the stories and lessons we’re learning from them.
Last but not least, we celebrated Charlie L’s birthday! We hope you have as much fun this weekend as we had singing his birthday song!
